The President of the European People’s Party (EPP) Wilfried Martens, who participated today as a keynote speaker at the CDU Congress in Karlsruhe, Germany, congratulated personally Chancellor Angela Merkel for her re-election as CDU President. CDU is one of the founding member-parties of the EPP:
"I warmly congratulate Angela Merkel for her re-election as CDU President. As I mentioned during my speech in Karlsruhe, Angela Merkel and the CDU have a pivotal role in tackling the growing challenges, which Europe currently faces. Needless to say, Chancellor Merkel is one of the leading EPP leaders, who systematically promotes EPP policies at the European level. I look forward to her continued and active engagement at the Summit meetings of EPP heads of state and government," Martens stated in Karlsruhe.
Moreover, EPP Secretary General Antonio López-Istúriz congratulated the election of CDU Secretary General Hermann Gröhe:
"Hermann Gröhe has been the driving force behind the renewal of the CDU and, therefore, the widespread support for his election is not surprising. Therefore, I congratulate Hermann Gröhe for his great work and his election, and I look forward to his even greater engagement in the work of the EPP," López-Istúriz underlined.
