HOUSE RULES COMMITTEE SETS DEBATE PARAMETERS FOR REPEAL OF ACA

The House Rules Committee meets to set to rules of debate for the "Repeal Obamacare Act" introduced by Rep. Eric Cantor following the Supreme Court's ruling that the health care law was constitutional.
Just hours after the decision was announced last month, Rep. Cantor announced that a vote to repeal the bill would be held on Wednesday, July 11.
The Rules Committee decides what the rules of debate are on the bill, including how much time each side will receive and how many amendments will be allowed to be considered.
The House, with it's Republican majority, is likely to pass the bill when it votes on Wednesday.
Because the Senate is controlled by the Democrats, the vote will likely be largely symbolic, but will certainly add fuel to campaign rhetoric about the issue.
Mitt Romney, speaking just after the Supreme Court ruling was announced Thursday, June 28, vowed to "repeal and replace" the bill. His campaign has been criticized since then for changing it's position on whether the individual mandate is a tax or not. Romney advisors at first said that they believed it was an unconstitutional mandate, regardless of the Supreme Court ruling, but later, the candidate himself said that the mandate was a tax because the Supreme Court has final say.
