Man charged in Wilmette home invasion

Authorities have charged a Chicago man with forcing his way into a former girlfriend’s Wilmette home, choking her around the neck and threatening to kill her, police said today.

Michael Bishop, 49, of the 1400 block of South Michigan Avenue, allegedly went to the woman’s home in the 700 block of 11th Street at 9:10 p.m. on Sunday, rang the doorbell, and forced his way in when the door started to open, according to a police news release.

The woman suffered minor injuries when she was forced to the ground, but was able to escape by kicking the man before calling 911, police said.

Bishop was arrested the following day at his residence, according to the release. He was charged with home invasion and felony aggravated domestic battery. He could not be reached for comment.

Bishop is scheduled to appear July 30 at the Skokie courthouse.
